Hugh Johnson Wine Atlas Release & Royal Tokaji Tasting
· October 26, 2007
Hugh Johnson, the
World’s Most Widely Read Wine Author Stops Off in Toronto
to Promote New 6th Edition of the World Wine Atlas and his
Royal Tokaji Wines.
On an overcast,
rainy Toronto Saturday morning recently, a bright light shone through
cyberspace with the presence of the world’s most widely read wine author,
Hugh Johnson. In town for short visit, to launch the 6th edition
of The World Atlas of Wine, co-authored with Jancis Robinson, Hugh dropped
by for a podcast with Jamie Drummond, Sommelier for Jamie Kennedy Wine Bar.
Check out
Jamie Kennedy Kitchens to listen to the
interview. Hugh talks about his writing over the years, observations about
the ever-changing world of wine, and his role in co-founding the
Royal Tokaji Wine Company in Hungary
immediately after the fall of Communism. At a special event tasting and book
and bottle signing at the LCBO Summerhill store, Hugh was present as we
poured two Royal Tokaji wines being released by
LCBO Vintages. Have a look at the photos below.

Fire Engine Red Tasting October 13, 2007
On Saturday,
October 13th, LCBO Vintages released a new vintage of the Fire Engine Red
Details for this unique
product can be viewed at
www.Coleraine.co.za.
We booked a
special event spot with the Bayview Village LCBO location for a launch and
in-store tasting. The North York Fire Department sent representatives, and
a charity donation of $518.27 was made towards their cause, York Region’s
Breast Cancer Friends Charity. To go along with the wine tasting, we
thought it would be perfect to serve Pizza Pizza’s “Five Alarm” Hot Hot
Chicken Wings to tie in with the Fire Engine Theme.

Fire
Engine Red Merlot Shiraz 2005
LCBO #663237 is a marriage of Merlot and
Shiraz which brings out the best of both cultivars. Densely fruited, peppery
smoky Shiraz with the Merlots savoury mulberry notes. All in all together a
full ripe balanced wine. This wine honours "Dennis", a Rolls Royce B. 80
Mark X powered fire fighting machine, pictured here, built in 1946 in the
UK. It was dedicated in November 3, 1949 at the Paarl Town Hall. Now
decommissioned and fully restored, it has taken its rightful place of honour
in the Paarl Regional Museum.
