HHD Imports was founded by Ingrid and Harry Drung.

HHD Imports was founded by Ingrid and Harry Drung.

Their passion and love of exploring the world for unique, high quality beverage alcohol products, inspired the birth of HHD Imports Inc. New regions are being explored, old regions re-visited, and on the basis of their expertise, the team at HHD is proud to share their discoveries with the Canadian consumer.

As a dynamic company, our philosophy is one of entering into long-term relationships with suppliers. Upon obtaining listings, we emphasize brand development and market presence. Promotional activity and media relations, coupled with nurturing and expanding our network of contacts in all sectors of the beverage alcohol industry, provide a sound foundation that will ensure corporate growth.

HHD Imports was awarded the 2016 Elsie in the category of Best Niche Marketing.

HHD Imports was awarded the 2016 Elsie in the category of Best Niche Marketing.

The Elsie Awards provide the LCBO the opportunity to recognize those trade partners who have set themselves apart by going above and beyond to deliver excellence. “We were thrilled to receive an Elsie considering the industry is dominated by large multi-national players,” said Harry Drung, President of HHD Imports Inc. The Elsie was awarded for the “Year of the Monkey” Pinot Noir. This quality red wine hails from the Affentaler Winery located in Germany. It comes packaged in the winery’s trademarked bottle that incorporates a wrap-around gold monkey. With the Year of the Monkey coming only every 12 years in the Chinese Zodiac, it especially appealed to Ontario’s Chinese-Canadian community.

HHD Imports Inc. is a long term member of the Ontario Imported Wine-Spirit-Beer Association, recently renamed Drinks Ontario. Harry Drung has served six years as a Director heading the Policy, Procedures, and Finance committee.

We celebrate our past experience and face the future with enthusiasm. As the market evolves, we will continue to supply our customers with their favourites, yet are always looking to source new and innovative products. We and our suppliers thank you for your continued support.

    Working with the LCBO

The sale of all alcoholic beverages in Ontario is controlled by the Liquor Control Board of Ontario. This includes all products sold in the LCBO retail stores, in restaurants, or directly to consumers. The LCBO has over 640 retail stores across the province, varying in size based on local market conditions. The LCBO is always planning new store openings, store relocations, and remodelling to better serve the Ontario consumers. The LCBO has annual gross sales close to $5 billion, and also generates close to $7 million annually in customer charitable donations at their checkouts.

LCBO Wines, Spirits,
and Beers

The LCBO has a different department to control the purchase and distribution of each type of beverage alcohol. Tenders to examine new products for continuous distribution occur every 12 to 18 months, depending on the country of origin, product type, and retail price. In store, the LCBO offers many different supplier-paid promotional programs to help drive sales, and build brand awareness. Annual sales targets must be achieved to remain listed. Aggressive marketing plans partnering with the LCBO are mandatory.

LCBO Consignment and
Private Ordering

The consignment and private ordering channels are also controlled by the LCBO. These programs allow consumers and importing agents to order any beverage alcohol product from around the world, which are not available within the LCBO retail store system.

LCBO
Vintages

Vintages is the Fine Wine and Spirits department of the LCBO. Vintages offers consumers a varying portfolio of unique wines from every major wine region of the world. The number of product tenders will vary each year for a particular region. The focus is on one-time buys of a limited quantity. If a product demonstrates consistent, strong sales, it might be considered for the Essentials program, a smaller portfolio within Vintages, of products available year round.
