BACK TO SCHOOL SPECIAL
As mom and dad outfit the kids to return to school, they deserve a little something special for themselves, as well. A complex red with good character would be the perfect wine for mom and dad to enjoy and wind down with. Let’s go to northeastern Italy’s vineyards surrounding the city of Verona. This is actually Romeo and Juliette country, so everything about the region tends to conjure up a bit of romance. Valpolicella, a seductive dry red blend of local Corvina, Molinaro and Rondinella grapes, is at home here. Valpolicella actually means valley of many cellars. The Cottinii family, Valpolicella specialists in the third generation, work 140 hectares of prime, eco-sustainable, bio-diverse vineyards. Fragrant, fruit driven and medium bodied with nuances of red fruits such as cherries and raspberries, we can think of no better pairing than with a mushroom risotto. If that’s too complicated, mom and dad can put up their feet and enjoy this wine with a medium bodied cheese. Oh, by the way, the designation Superiore means that the wine has been aged at least one year and has one degree more alcohol than a regular Valpolicella.
