Not your Grandmother's Liebfraumilch!!
Liebfraumilch was once the German standard bearer for highest quality, one of Europe’s top wines. Not dry, but off dry, i.e. not sweet. But commercial wineries jumped on board and it became a pleasant quaffing white wine produced in large quantities.
A small group of quality producers, including the Hammel Estate in the Pfalz, formed the “Liebfraumilch Society”in order to control quality, keep sugar levels off dry and encourage premium retail prices.
At 11.5 % alc./vol,, this refreshing, off-dry white is a fruit driven blend of Rivaner, Kerner, Scheurebe, Gewürtztraminer and Riesling. A great aperitif, it would also work well with salty foods such as charcuterie platters, ham or fish.
