HOT AND IN THE 90’s, EVEN IN COOLER WEATHER

2018 Potente

From its blackberry liqueur-like aromas to its bold expression, this is a serious wine you’ll want to sip slowly and savour.

With the cool fall weather upon us, a harbinger of colder months to come, we’ve got an affordable winner of a wine for your enjoyment.

THE pinnacle of quality, and price, in Spain, has to be the wines of Priorat. But, there is a wine region called Montsant, translated holy mountain, that completely surrounds Priorat with similar characteristics at every day prices. Our associate Eva López, from Cuvée International, met growers in the of town Capçanes, the most important centre of wine production in Montsant, and from the beginning she knew she had found people who produce wines really true to their origins using indigenous grape varieties.

Capçanes, located 100 miles southwest of Barcelona, 20 miles inland from the Mediterranean sea, is the heart of a long wine growing history dating back to the middle ages. Eva made the decision to develop the POTENTE project in this incredible area in Catalonia making a blend of Garnacha (Grenache), Merlot, Cariñena and Syrah.

Garnering 95 points in The Toronto Star, Carolyn Evans Hammond wrote:

“From its blackberry liqueur-like aromas to its bold expression, this is a serious wine you’ll want to sip slowly and savour.” Its brawny expression unfolds with blackberries and black cherries and grilled meat as well as dark earth, crushed stone, graphite, walnut, black tea and more before drawing you back for another sip. Marvellous. Especially with beef short ribs.”

2018 POTENTE MONTSANT DO #10682, $19.95.
