LADY MAY’S DAY – MAY 17
Selling her iconic Bordeaux Chateau, Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande at age 78, she was ready to start a new venture, Glenelly Estate. With enticing views and the perfect terroir to plant vineyards, is it any wonder that May de Lencquesaing fell in love with this special place on earth. South Africa’s Stellenbosch wine region, just to the north of Cape Town, has got to be one of the most beautiful wine growing areas in the world. The winery building with its minimalist design is esthetically integrated into a hillside slope. It is also home to May’s Glass Collection, housed in a separate gallery in the winery building. Her lifelong passion of collecting rare and contemporary glass has resulted in one of the largest privately owned collections in the world. To celebrate her 95th birthday on May 17th, Glenelly’s GM, Nicolas Bureau, and winemaker, Luke O’Cuinneagain, are conducting a virtual tasting on Facebook of their flagship premium Bordeaux blend, 2014 Lady May. In the meantime, there are still quantities of the 2017 Glenelly Glass Collection Cabernet Sauvignon, brand #13316 at $15.95, available in select LCBO retail stores.
