THE COAST IS CLEAR TO TOAST SAUVIGNON BLANC
Sauvignon Blanc has found the ideal terroir to bring out its best characteristics along the coast of Chile in the Casablanca Valley. Located a mere 13 km inland from the Pacific Ocean, the Humboldt Current delivers cool sea breezes so that temperatures in Matetic’s Valle Hermoso vineyard can drop 10 degrees centigrade by afternoon. The brand name of the wine is EQ, which stands for being in equilibrium with nature in all aspects of grape growing and wine making. It’s certified organic and biodynamic. Pale yellow with green hues, the complex nose is dominated by citrus and tropical aromas, light herbal notes and a typical crispness that is characteristic of Sauvignon Blanc coming from a cool coastal climate. The palate is fresh, vivid, crisp and concentrated with lots of fruit that leads to a lingering finish. Coming from this close to the ocean, naturally seafood would be the best companion this wine. Hmm, raw fish dishes such as ceviche, tuna carpaccio, sushi with light sauces, oysters, scallops come to mind.
